On the occasion of the celebration today, March 8th, of International Women's Day, at ALCAD we pay a small tribute to our female colleagues by making their presence in the company visible. Without the work they have been doing since our foundation in 1988 in areas as diverse as R&D, Production, IT, Development, Logistics, Purchasing, etc., we would not be what we are today.
Their names are (in alphabetical order): Adela, Amaia, Ana, Anabel, Andrea, Ane, Belén, Cecilia, Clara, Cristina, Edurne, Eider, Idoia, Isabel, Lourdes, Mª Eugenia, Maider, Marga, Marian, Marta, Mercedes, Mertxe, Miren, Miriam, Nora, Pauline and Toñi. Some of them appear in the image that accompanies these lines, but there have been many more over the three decades of ALCAD's history. Thank you very much! Zorionak!
Today, on the occasion of the celebration of International Women's Day, we especially join the theme proposed by the UN for this day, as it touches us very closely: "For an inclusive digital world: Innovation and technology for gender equality."
There is still much to be done. According to data from the ClosinGap group and reported by El País, the closing of the gender gap has advanced 1.4 percentage points in Spain and stands at 64.7% (100% being absolute parity). This indicator calculates the difference between male and female rates in five key areas: employment, education, work-life balance, health and digitalisation. Taking into account the pace at which equality has been evolving in Spain in these five areas, the document highlights that it would take 33 years to achieve a level of absolute parity.
It is clear that, from society in general and companies in particular, we must push to accelerate this process and eliminate this gender gap as soon as possible. In our case, we are doing our bit with our own Equality Plan, which includes a set of measures aimed at achieving equal treatment and opportunities between women and men and eliminating gender discrimination in our organisation.
The document provides a path for the organisation to improve in the field of equality between women and men, in working conditions, internal organisation and functioning and in the provision of its services, as well as in its relationship with other entities in the environment through the participation of the people who work in it.
