ALCAD leads the LOCAITEK project to improve fall detection and patient location
25/03/2026
ALCAD leads the LOCAITEK project, an initiative focused on developing an advanced system for fall detection and people location in hospitals and nursing homes.
The project is carried out in collaboration with the Gipuzkoa-based company Ingevital and aims to create a technological solution capable of monitoring patients accurately and non-intrusively, improving safety in care environments and enabling a faster response from healthcare staff to critical events.
The solution combines several key technologies, all integrated into an interoperable healthcare management platform capable of operating in real time:
- Millimetre-wave radar for fall detection and contactless monitoring of vital signs
- Indoor location using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to track patients and staff in real time
- Artificial Intelligence algorithms to analyse patterns and anticipate risk situations
This tool will enable early detection of risk situations, optimise healthcare resource management and improve patient care in hospital and residential environments.
The challenge of an ageing population
The project addresses a growing challenge in the care sector: population ageing and the increasing demand for intelligent monitoring systems that improve safety and operational efficiency.
LOCAITEK is supported by public innovation programmes and is funded by the Basque Government’s Hazitek programme and co-financed by the Centre for the Development of Technology and Innovation (CDTI).
