"The trends in the video intercom sector are focused on expanding end-user services related to the digital home"
02/03/2020
Our Strategic Plan contemplates an important development of new services and systems in the environment of the video intercom and access control in the next triennium, focused on expanding the services to the end user through new technologies on IP, related to the home Wifi and smartphones. Thus, to offer more specialized attention to our clients, we have created the specific business unit ALCAD Home.
Within 2020 we expect that 10% of our turnover corresponds to sales of our new specific IPAL digital home catalogue, the 100% IP intercom and building management system of ALCAD. We talk about all this and more with Cuadernos de Material Eléctrico, the Spanish specialized magazine of the sector that has published an interesting article about the current situation of the video intercom segment in its 49th edition. Following, the full interview:
"Housing rehabilitation is nowadays a very important market opportunity"
What are the most relevant trends that are affecting the video intercom segment?
Certainly we see new trends within the market focused on expanding services to the end user, in a system that has as a priority and initial function the management of access control to housing. Specifically, the tendency is to include, through an access control system, and using as an interface the screens that are already available in it, services related to the digital home. These are developed through new technologies over IP, which are also related to the home Wi-Fi network and the smartphones of the end users.
How do you perceive the evolution of this market and what expectations do you have for 2020?
At ALCAD we foresee an important development of these new services and systems in the video intercom and access control segment over the next 3 years, reflected in our Strategic Plan. Specifically, within 2020 we foresee around 10% of our turnover, based on sales of our new specific IPAL digital home catalogue, the 100% IP intercom and building management system by ALCAD.
The rehabilitation of homes and buildings entails an opportunity for the change of old equipment to new technologies. Do you think that replacement is an important business area? What barriers are found for this change?
Undoubtedly, the rehabilitation of homes is nowadays a very important market opportunity, even more than that of the new construction, which now stands in Spain at around 60,000 new homes annually. Certainly, housing rehabilitation has barriers in terms of efficiency in wiring and existing topologies in its use in new technologies, but they are barriers that can be solved at the technological level.
In our case, at ALCAD we have created this year a specific Business Unit (ALCAD Home) with the aim of offering our clients a more specialized attention. In response to this specific problem, the inclusion in the ALCAD Home catalog of different specific products allows us to be able to satisfactorily resolve the aforementioned barriers.
What proportion does the tertiary sector buildings represent for this business? What technologies or solutions does it demand in this area?
Tertiary sector buildings can represent approximately 10% of the global market nationwide, and certainly the services requested in this market segment are much more focused on access controls. In our case we cover it with our iACCESS catalogue, the access control system through proximity readers integrated in our street signs.
What news does the company present in this market for 2020?
In response to the aforementioned demand regarding the request for digital home services within the video intercom system, we have launched the iPAL catalogue, with new specific aesthetics on both street panels and hands-free monitors.
IPAL has the advantage that, as it comes with a custom factory pre-configuration, it becomes the easiest IP system to install on the market, since it does not require programming. In this sense, it allows configurations of a very different nature, from basic access control facilities to the most complete services in the digital home environment.
